On Saturday, 14th August a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the south-west of Haiti. Officials have confirmed at least 1,297 people are dead with many more injured and missing.
We can confirm that all at our school in Port-au-Prince are safe and the school was shaken but unaffected.
Happily, we can report that all microfinance branch staff are safe and well, but our building has been damaged and is structurally unsafe. The branch is situated in Aken, in the south, close to the epicentre of the earthquake.
Details of our microfinance clients are uncertain at this time, as the area is remote and rural and it will take some days, and maybe weeks before all are accounted for.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry declared a month-long state of emergency and urged the population to “show solidarity”.
“The most important thing is to recover as many survivors as possible under the rubble,” he said on Saturday.
He warned that Tropical Storm Grace, which is approaching the country, is “likely to make matters worse” in the coming days.
