For 10 days in August, a group of 12 ventured to Haiti, to teach art, dance and drama at the Andrew Grene High School. It was an amazing trip and produced some incredible art.
Here are a few words from some of the participants, as to how they felt after the trip. If you would like to participate in a future program such as this, please email jane.holden@andrewgrene.org for initial details. Places are limited, so don’t delay!
Ambia:
For me it was great to see what the AGF does for its students and how anyone can be part of the development of students. I was happy to be a part of it even it it was for a couple days.
10/10 would do it again.
Grace:
It’s really hard to put into words how amazing the trip was, the school and Haiti is full of wonderful and inspiring individuals, it opened my eyes and made me appreciate what I have even more than ever! I would love to return in the future, thank you to The Andrew Grene Foundation, especially Jane Holden, who made it all possible!
Leigh:
My Haiti experience has made me view my life and the world from a different perspective. I’ve learnt that I need to be more grateful for what I have and take nothing for granted.
Thanks to the amazing Jane, our trip was able to run smoothly, meaning that we could experience everything Haiti has to offer. From the crazy roads, the amazing school , the wonderful people and the delicious sugar cane!.
I’ve made memories that I’ll cherish forever and I really hope to return in the future.
Thanks to all involved for a life changing experience x

Wow what a positive experience. Despite all the presentations, photos and videos I had seen over the years, nothing could prepare me for that initial culture shock that bombards you immediately you step off the plane!! The Group was fantastic and brilliantly led by our very own Madame Bon Bagay (AKA Jane!) who controlled, informed, entertained and kept us going 24/7, despite the intense heat and waves of sickness that hit the majority of the group. I also cannot speak highly enough of the support given by Guy and Derival – what a phenomenal double act they are!!
The timing of the trip worked brilliantly with the first weekend in Jacmel providing the perfect opportunity for theGroup to see more of the island, get to know one another and bond over a couple of rum sours.
The week at the school was a mixture of fun, emotion, reward and inspiration. The hunger for learning by the students and warmth shown by all at the school was amazing. The structure of the week was great and the turnout was fantastic. It was also pleasing to see many of the mature students coming in to help us in any way they could and the community turn out for the final presentation day and Saturday dance class.
I hope this can become an annual event as everyone got so much from it.

This social experience gave me the real definition of humanitarian help. Andrew Grene’ school is giving hope and future for many kids! After this trip, I’m thinking to work for a Foundation to help people from Haiti 🙂
Jess:
Haiti has been such an incredible experience, I’ve enjoyed every aspect from the sight seeing, getting to know our lovely group, trying new things and pushing myself well out of my comfort zone! The Andrew Grene school itself was brilliant, Ricot is a wonderful headteacher and we were given so much support. Seeing the children enjoying our classes and being so proud of the work they created has to be the highlight and I can honestly say I’d go back in a heartbeat! Bon Bagay!
